A Good Map making Board / Sketching Board.
British military item. No M.O.D markings.
ww1 period.
The arched top, and the bottom, formed from boxwood.
The centre board, a darker in colour wood.
At the front.
The arch inset a blank compass ,with a movable cross hair.
The top impressed with makers name.
VERNERS PATENT No 1787.
and calibrations.
The base also with calibrations.
At the top, right, and left, knurled wheels,
for turning the paper holder rods,
these formed, from gilt brass.
The reverse fitted, with a leg, or wrist mounting, leather strap.
On the right and left, remaining parts, of metal sprung,
leather straps.
At the base a boxwood clinometer, with crisp and clear,
calibrations.
The pointer, formed from blued steel.
Board height, 9".750" and, 7" Wide.
Weight 446 grams.
Condition.
The leather straps, on the left, and right, have only
parts remaining, there two,steel springs are fine.
The large, leg strap, is perished, and split through the front.
The wood board is fine.
The blank compass is fine.
The clinometer is fine.
The brass formed paper rollers, have lost most of there gilt finish.
