WORLD WAR I 2ND DIVISION HISTORY BOOK - 2ND ENGINEERS + ENGINEER TRAIN 1916-1919:
$248
See the images. I recently acquired a nice collection of World War I unit histories that I'll be listing on the week. This sale is for a book titled "THE OFFICIAL HISTORY OF THE SECOND REGIMENT OF ENGINEERS AND SECOND ENGINEER TRAIN, UNITED STATES ARMY IN THE WORLD WAR".
This is absolutely one of the finest and most detailed of the WWI unit histories, as it includes exceptionally detailed full rosters which note wounds, illness, battles, decorations, etc. The 2nd Engineers saw a tremendous amount of action and had thirty members receive the D.S.C. About 350 earned the Silver Star. The text of the citations for all of the DSC awards and many if not all of the Silver Stars is included.
Size 6" x 9 1/4", 257 pages, Dornbusch #747, Controvich #3204. A highly informative history of the units, with contents including Roll of Honor, Table of Contents, a narrative of the units' experiences during the war including at Chateau Thierry, Soissons, St. Mihiel, Blanc Mont, Meuse-Argonne, Etc., numerous photographs, commendations, lists of decorations awarded, summery of losses and replacements, full roster, etc.
Condition: the interior is fine or better, except for some dime sized staining not affecting the text on the last few pages. However, on the cover, there is some damage and staining and water damage, poor binding resulting in some pages torn at gutter, back coming detached as illustrated, some general light age toning, corner wear and dog ears, etc. Please refer to the pictures above before offerding, nevertheless a good reader's copy with all pages present and holding to the binding. A very scarce and useful 2nd Division title!
