Topping Models metal Republic F-105 Thunderchief desk model:
$267
This is a Topping Models(Akron, Ohio)metal display model of a U.S. Air Force F-105 Thunderchief. This is one of the few almost all metal models produced by Topping Models apparently back in the late 1950's. The only non metal part is the plexiglass cockpit canopy. Model is approximately 1/48 scale and measures 16" from nosetip to tail cone. Model is in nice presentable condition. The stand itselfseems to be chromecoated. There area fewminor pit marks in arowon the left side of the stand about an inch long(perhapssomething overlooked in the polishing phase of the model?) as well as some minor stains in the chrome that reallyisn't noticable. Name plate has a few small scratches, but again nothing really that much.Name plate rivets mayhave just a littlesurface rust on their heads.
The F-105 model itself is in good condition with very little to no bending of the wings or tail. Metal surface seems to have lost some of its shine with age (model was made of a zinc alloy) and has some minor scratches here and there, but nothing really worth pointing out.Anti glare paint has a few small chips and scratches. Decals in very good condition except on the right side where it reads, U.S. Air Force, the "E's" bottom has a scratch in the decal surface. NOTE: Can't be too sure if thesolid plexiglass cockpit canopy is original to the model or a reproduction. It is clear and affixed well to the model, but itappears to lack some detailversus the rest of the model. Just my opinion. As the story goes, Topping, which made nearly all it'saircraft display models from acetate butyrate plastic, lost money producing the approximately 2500 metal F-105 models for Republic Aircraft. Interestingly,M.M. VerkuylModels ofHolland would make a very similar 1/48 scale metal F-105 model for Republic except the Verkuyl model would be entirely metal without the plexiglass canopy.
Whether you were a "thud" driver or are just an admirer of what was one of the largest single engine jet fighters in the U.S. Air Force's inventory, this would be a great model to have in your collection. Shipping via insured U.S. Priority Mail is $15.00. Shipping to Europe is around $45.00. Around $50.00 to Australia. Foreign purchases will be notified in a few business days of the final shipping costs. I accept Paypal and other forms of payment, but Foreign orders MUST use Paypal. Please note: I cannot mark down price or list as gift for shipping. U.S. and International regulations prohibit this. One last thing, I noticed someone has this exact same model for sale on minus the cocipit canopy with a "Buy It Now" price of around $500.00. I'm starting my model at a more modest $5.00. Imagine if you can get it for that price! Thanks for lookin'!
