DESCRIPTION: Original WWI patriotic poster
entitled "FOR HOME & COUNTRY, VICTORY LIBERTY LOAN". Painted by Alfred
Elliott Orr and dated 1918 (both in the lower right hand corner).
Has a great big color picture in the center showing
a WWI soldier obviously who has just returned home and who is hugging his
young wife and who is being squeezed tight by his very young son. GREAT EMOTION
EXPRESSED IN THE FACES AND IN THE EMBRACE. On his belt is hanging a German
helmet, symbolizing the victory in the war against Germany.
Printed on very thin poster paper as most WWI posters
were. They were never intended to last forever when printed at the time.
This one was obviously kept Huge size, about 30" x 38". In very good condition
generally. Has a couple of small edge rips. This was obviously rolled up/folded
in storage for many years as shown in the scans. It has several small tears
at some of the folds. THERE IS NO MATERIAL MISSING HOWEVER. I believe the
tears and folds would disappear/flatten out if it was mounted on a large
piece of cardboard, especially if covered by tight thin plastic as is often
done. They could easily be repaired with a little reverse reinforcement in
the areas affected if desired.
The good part is that it is very clean and there are
no stains or foxing. The paper is also crisp and not worn in any way. I believe
it was put away in brand new condition and stored well except for being rolled
up.
A really neat appearing large WWI patriotic poster,
dated and signed by illustrator!!!
